The Youth of Francis: In Rome to Thank the Pope of Hope

Over two hundred thousand young people gathered in Rome to experience the Jubilee of Adolescents, with more than four hundred thousand attending to greet Pope Francis on Saturday, April 26. St. Peter's Square became a home for the entire world on this special occasion.

The Youth of Francis: In Rome to Thank the Pope of Hope

These days are filled with emotion and gratitude, especially for those who have traveled to Rome in these moments to express their gratitude to the Holy Father, who has now departed from us. Some young people from the parish of St. Francis in Pistoia and from the Young Lay Betharramite group also traveled to Rome, not only to participate in the Pope's funeral but to be part of this significant Jubilee event.

Here are some testimonies from young people:

"What struck me about this day was seeing the entire world come together for one person. I am 22 years old, and I never imagined that I would have the grace to be part of such a powerful and emotional moment.  As soon as I arrived in St. Peter's Square, I could immediately feel an overwhelming sense of love and gratitude for the Holy Father.  It was such an emotional experience! I am certain that this day will deeply impact my faith journey and that I will always remember it as a pivotal moment in my spiritual growth. As a young person, I felt it was my responsibility to be here to thank him for everything he has done for us. The Holy Father instilled in the hearts of many young people a profound sense of unity among nations and the understanding that faith in God has the power to bring everyone together in peace. It was a divine day!" — Mattia, 22 years old.

"I am here in Rome with the group of teenagers from the parish of San Francesco in Pistoia, where I serve as a youth leader. I had the privilege of participating in the Holy Mass in St. Peter's Square on Sunday, April 27, along with two hundred thousand other young people. In the midst of the warm sun, my heart was filled with so many emotions. We shared moments of deep emotion and gratitude for being present here." — Flor, 24 years old.

"At Pope Francis’ funeral today, I saw one man embracing all of humanity with a deep, unifying love. I saw, alongside the 'greats' of the world, a simple wooden coffin, reminding us that love can accomplish the impossible. Today, time seemed to stand still, allowing us to enter into a larger history—one where heads of state stand side by side with the poor, and where young and old join hands in solidarity. I felt as if heaven itself had come down to earth. Thank you, Lord, for the gift of Francis, for the beauty you planted in his heart. Thank you for drawing so close to us through the life of Pope Francis. And thank you, Francis, for everything. Thank you for being you. I will love you forever." — Alessandra, 29 years old.
