Imitate Christ! Only that can lead to virtue.
Imitate God! That is even greater than anything that can be said, greater even than making the sun rise on the good and the wicked or to make the rain fall on the just and unjust.

How does the Apostle St Paul think that we can imitate God? He suggests that, filled with God’s gifts, we should distribute them amongst our brothers by countless acts of kindness; that we should have for others the heart of a Father, that is, having the deepest feelings of compassion, and human affection. Since it is impossible, in view of the weakness of our human nature, not to offend our neighbour sometimes, we must look for the remedy to this weakness in mutual forgiveness. (M 498)
