Feast of the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Bidar Mission
On 8th of September 2023 we celebrated the feast of the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Bidar Mission, Karnataka lndia. The place of our ministry is among the majority of the Christian community. Though many are baptised into catholic faith, they still live in Methodist ways.
Mother Mary is placed in the Church as mother of the Church and their devotion and prayers to our Blessed Mother are less relevant to their faith.
Fathers George Antony SCJ and Fr Avinash SCJ are spreading the devotion by celebrating the feast days of our Blessed Mother at Bidar Mission. However, challenges abound.
Rainy days often deter attendance, and electricity failures can disrupt Mass. Such conditions were our backdrop on September 8. Because of the rain, only four people initially gathered for Mass. The seven villages we serve are far apart from each other and from the central location where the director and Parish priest reside, and where the Eucharist is kept in a tabernacle.
Then, an unexpected call came from one of the villages, pleading for Father’s presence. Father George promptly drove his Jeep, making a round.
Astonishingly, a crowd that began with just four or three individuals swelled to over 150. A joyful procession with Mary Bambina commenced from the convent's grotto (as the church lacks one). This unexpected turn of events demonstrates the profound impact of this feast day celebration and devotion brought to our mission.
