Day of recollection for the capitulants
June 12: We began the day of recollection with the celebration of the Eucharist. At 8:30 a.m., the session opens with the first lecture. Father Miguel Garaizábal sj, Superior of the Jesuits in Thailand and friend of Betharram introduced us to the synodal experience of the Church with reference to the texts of Pope Francis.
A second conference presented synodal discernment to us as an experience of communion and participation of all, the only one capable of helping us to renew our mission today. We discovered the importance of the formation of the conscience, which allows discernment to grow in depth and in fidelity to God and to the charism. The capitulants were invited in the afternoon to extend the various reflections through prayer and meditation.
At the end of the afternoon, we were treated to a very beautiful film which recounts the life and mission of the first Betharramite missionaries in Thailand after the expulsion from China. From Dali to Chiang Mai, we have seen the zeal and enthusiasm that drove our elders and how the mustard seed sown in 1951 in Thailand becomes a tree today.
This was followed by a presentation of the life and mission of the Betharramite Fathers in Vietnam.
