The celebration of Pongal, the harvest festival

The community of Betharram Formation House, Mangalore, celebrated the harvest festival (called Pongal) of Tamil Nadu on 15th January 2020 in the presence of Rev. Fr. Arul Gnana Prakash SCJ, the Regional Vicar of India and Rev. Fr. Vipin SCJ the Scholastic Master.

The celebration was colourful and meaningful with lot of decorations. The celebration began in the early morning with the Morning Prayer around the pongal courtyard. Later we all witnessed the cooking pongal rice. Theologians from St. Joseph’s Interdiocesan Seminary were also with us for this celebration. Brothers had a friendly volley ball match and other party games in the evening. Fr Arul, during the Eucharistic celebration explained the Christian meaning of this harvest festival. The celebration ended with the traditional festive dinner.
