Installation of Mgr Joseph Vuthilert Haelom, first Bishop of the new Diocese of Chiang Rai
On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 July the new Diocese of Chiang Rai, erected by Pope Francis on 25 April 2018, welcomed its first bishop Mgr. Joseph Vuthilert Haelom.
In order to accomodate all the faithful who came to the city for this event, the celebration took place in the great hall "Rajabhat University", Chiang Rai University.
The new bishop was consecrated by the laying on of hands of the archbishop emeritus of Bangkok, Mgr Michael Michai Kitbunchu. The Nuncio, Mons. Paul Tschang In-Nam, all the Bishops of the Thai Episcopal Conference and the priests working in the new diocese joined the concelebration.
The next day the new Bishop celebrated solemn mass at the "Nativity of Our Lady" cathedral. Also present were the Betharramite Fathers with the Regional Vicar in Thailand, Fr. John Chan Kunu scj.
