St. Mary of Jesus Crucified’s celebration in Pau
150 years ago, a little Palestinian sister arrived in the Carmel of Pau with Mother Veronica: it was June 15, 1867.
However, Saint Mary of Jesus Crucified is celebrated in Pau in this season to commemorate the mystical phenomenon that took place there on May 24, 1868: the transverberation of her heart in the chapel "Our Lady of Mount Carmel".
This celebration (Friday 2 and Saturday 3), presided by Mons Maurice Gardès, Archbishop of Auch, began with the singing of Vespers and was followed by Bishop Gardes' conference on the example of humility given by St. Mariam.
The evening ended with the candlelight procession towards the chapel "Our Lady of Mount Carmel".
The next day, the assembly gathered to pray Morning Prayer, followed by a time of adoration and the sacrament of reconciliation. Then the eucharist presided by Mons. Gardès was celebrated in the nearby church of "Saint Therese of the Child Jesus".
The celebrations were animated by the "Little Choir Saint Michael Garicoïts" and many Betharramite religious attended this festive occasion.
