R.I.P.
Yesterday, February 19, at Betharram, in the Maison Neuve, Fr Joseph Canton, dean of the Congregation, returned to the Father's House. On March 12, Fr Joseph would have turned 105!
We entrust him to the mercy of the Father to whom he dedicated his entire life and we want to remember him with a letter in which, as a young priest, he had outlined his life as a betharramite religious priest:
"I am preparing my ordination; in five months I’ll be a priest; Im a little afraid seeing me so young and still somehow not wise enough, and yet I am looking forward to it. I would like to be a genuine Betharramite priest, small, happy, constant and dedicated; small and dedicated, this the ideal I would like to realize; I think these two words contain the essentials.” (Letter to V.R.F. Hippolyte Paillas, Superior general, Bethlehem, February 6th, 1933).
Dear Fr Joseph, may the Lord of mercy, through the intercession of Our Lady of Betharram and our Father Saint Michael Garicoits, welcome you into his Kingdom, with these words, ”Good and faithful servant, ... enter into the joy of your master" (Mt. 25, 21).
The funeral will be held on Monday, February 23, at 2,30 pm at Betharram.
