Sin is the absence of goodness; it is denial, it is nothingness.  To believe that sin is a positive action; it is saying that God is the author of it, because everything positive comes from God.  Hatred, for example, is something good in itself; nothing better than the hatred of evil; but to hate God means what?  It is the denial of a healthy hatred, and is therefore a negative action; therefore it does not proceed from God.  Who are the men who will be punished? They will be those who failed to do good; they will not be punished precisely because they have done wrong, but because they will have failed to do good – being evil the negation of the good.
