Celebrations in the Betharramite Parish of Niem
Niem, June 8th - The solemnity of Pentecost could not have been spent in a better way in Niem. In a single day, three celebrations took place: the solemnity of Pentecost, the Parish feast day, and the 60th anniversary of the priestly ordination of Fr. Arialdo Urbani SCJ, none other than the founder of the mission.
The rainy season has arrived in Niem. However, a special wind from above cleared all the clouds, allowing the sun to shine brightly. After a solemn procession along the only street in the village, amidst singing and dancing, the celebration of Holy Mass began.
Two and a half hours passed in a flash. There are many things to tell, but what was most moving occurred at the end of the celebration: an endless procession of people who, in various ways, wanted to express their "Thank You" to Fr. Arialdo. They offered him everything: goats, chickens, bananas... even pasta and good wine, which is practically impossible to find here. It is a thank you brought by simple people with whom Fr. Arialdo has shared 40 years of his life. There were also his students from the very beginning, who today hold important positions in Central African society.
Over the years, Fr. Arialdo has founded several village schools. Tens of thousands of boys and girls have been able to learn to read and write thanks to the work of Fr. Arialdo.
May the Lord, with the strength and freshness of His Holy Spirit, help him to continue for a long time as a witness to His Gospel.
