Celebration in the village of Saint Michael Garicoits
On Sunday, May 11, the group “Friends of Michel Garicoïts,” based in Saint-Palais at the MaisonEtchecopar, organised the Holy Mass celebrated at Ibarre in honor of Saint Michael Garicoits.
This annual event traditionally takes place on the Sunday closest to May 14, the liturgical feast of the saint. The celebration was presided over by Father Simone, Regional Superior, and concelebrated by Fr Gustavo, superior general and several Betharramite fathers, including members of the Regional Council currently gathered in Betharram for a meeting.
Around a hundred faithful responded to the invitation, participating in the celebration with devotion.
In the afternoon, an hour of Eucharistic adoration was held in the small church of Ibarre, followed by Vespers, which spiritually sealed the day.
Despite the rain, a few rays of sunshine broke through the clouds, brightening the sky and offering those present picturesque glimpses of the mountains overlooking Ibarre.
Before returning to Betharram, the members of the Regional Council visited the birthplace of Saint Michael, Garacoitchea — the “house on the hill” — which has recently been restored: cleaned, repainted, and enriched with illustrations and inscriptions that recount the life and work of the saint.
