61 years of priesthood for Mgr. Claudio Silvero, Betharramite Bishop Emeritus of Encarnación
On Saturday 16 December, Mgr. Claudio Silvero, auxiliary bishop emeritus of Encarnación, celebrated a Mass of thanksgiving for his 61 years of priestly life, in the San José parish of Asunción (Paraguay).
Mgr. Claudio was born in 1935 in the city of Iturbe (Paraguay). While still very young he entered the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Betharram. He made his profession on February 27, 1957 and was ordained a priest on December 16, 1962 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He exercised the priestly ministry at the San José College of Buenos Aires, following courses in theology and spirituality. He was a formator in the Apostolic College of the Congregation in Asunción. Then Parish Priest of the San José parish, in Asunción (1970-1976).
Paul VI appointed him Bishop of Coronel Oviedo on 15 March 1976. On 1st May of the same year he was ordained Bishop in his see. Since March 1998 he has held the position of Auxiliary Bishop of Encarnación, where he collaborated in the construction of the diocesan sanctuary of the "Virgin of Itacua" on the coast of the Paraná river. In 2014, Pope Francis accepted his resignation due to age and, as Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Encarnación, he returned to live in the Community of San José (Asunción), from where he carries out a tireless pastoral ministry.
