Fr Ted Simpson, 90 years young
October 3 2019 will go down in the annals of the Olton Friary parish and religious community for the solemn celebration of the 90th birthday of Fr. Ted Simpson, scj.
During the evening Mass, the religious of the Vicariate of England with some priests from neighbouring parishes and representatives of other Christian denominations and many parishioners gathered in the friary church to thank the Lord for the 90 years of Fr. Ted's life .
Fr. Ted presided over the celebration during which, Fr. Biju scj (current Parish Priest) and Fr. Austin scj recalled the significant moments of Fr. Ted's life and thanked him for over 30 years of faithful service as Parish Priest at Olton.
The different sections of the parish (among them the Companions of Betharram) expressed their gratitude to Fr. Ted, during a social evening that followed the Eucharistic celebration.
A particularly touching moment was the brief final intervention of Fr. Ted when he shared the story of his vocation and in particular the difficulties he had to face before being welcomed into the Betharramite family.
We ask Fr Ted to continue his mission in the parish and in the community with his prayer and his cheerful presence in the community.
