80 years of the Laying of the Foundation stone in the Holy Name Parish, Birmingham
Last Friday, 21 September, at 7 pm, a Mass of Thanksgiving was celebrated to mark 80 years of the Laying of the Foundation stone, with Archbishop Bernard Longley as the principal celebrant.
Most of the Fathers and Brothers of Betharram of the English Vicariate were present along with many parishioners.
In his homily, the Archbishop expressed his gratitude to all the priests, deacons and laypeople who, along the years and in different ways, have been serving and ministering the people of God in this part of the Birmingham Diocese. In a special way Mgr Bernard Longley emphasised the work of the Betharram Fathers and Brothers in these recent years.
From the website of the Parish:
Over the last six months Holy Name has undergone an extensive refurbishment to ensure it is fit for purpose for many more years to come … Brother Andrew, SCJ, along with Fr Alessandro SCJ and Br John SCJ, based at Holy Name, said: “Our 80th anniversary year is a milestone to be proud of. This church has served the Great Barr community for 80 years, and we want this to continue for another 80 years”.
