The “Showers of the Sacred Heart”
For a month and a half the “Sacred Heart Showers” have been functioning - this is a project of the Betharramite Parish of the Sacred Heart in Barracas (Argentina) in collaboration with the "Miserando" Association, the association for the dialogue and Culture of the Encounter and the communities of the South.
The initiative aims to replicate the prophetic gesture of Pope Francis, who, in Saint Peter’s Square had some showers installed for homeless people. In the historic Basilica of Barracas (Argentina) some bathrooms have been refurbished to provide the same service and some volunteers have been involved in order to make them experience the marginal situations of the destitutes, especially in the Holy Year of Mercy.
The "Sacred Heart" Showers are open on Tuesday afternoon and Saturday morning. The homeless and the destitute, come to the parish, and they can find assistance for their personal hygiene, food and clothing. Adding to that they can get some help in finding a job and legal assistance.
This initiative was founded by five people and today they are more than forty.
