Distribution of food in the Parish "N. D. de Fatima " - Bouar
Saturday, November 16, in the city of Bouar in the Central African Republic took place the second distribution of food to over 5,000 people, displaced from villages burned by the rebels seleka.
Our mission of "Notre Dame de Fatima" too, with Fr Beniamino Gusmeroli SCJ, was at the forefront to help deal with this emergency. In fact, the distribution of food was held in three different locations in the city: the cathedral (with 1,200 people), the village of Wantiguera, just outside Bouar (250 people), and in the Parish “Our Lady of Fatima”, entrusted to the Betharramite Religious (3,700 people).
The initiative was launched by the World Food Programme (WFP), prompted by the Caritas of Bouar to assist the refugees who are in a situation of absolute poverty after losing everything in their villages. In our mission of Fatima were distributed about 50 tons of corn flour, beans, oil and salt.
The day was long and exhausting for everyone. In fact, the work of distribution lasted from 8 am to 6 pm; more than 50 people were involved in this job. WFP gave a small fee to people who help in this job: about 2 € each. This distribution is part of the plan of assistance to refugees at a national level and WFP asked Caritas to be a partner in these interventions.
