Central African Republic - Niem
Sunday, April 22th, was the D-day of the 25th anniversary celebrations for the presence of the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Betharram in Niem, a village in northern Central African Republic.
After three days of meetings, prepared by Fr. Agostino Bassani, a Capuchin missionary, was held the celebration of the Holy Mass, presided by His. Exc. Mgr Armando Gianni, Archbishop of Bouar, during which a few children received confirmation. The celebration took place with the usual songs and dances, in accordance with the African tradition, which gave even more joy to the day.
In his homily, Archbishop Gianni expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Fathers for the ministry carried out since December 1986, when they started the mission in Niem.
Along with the Fathers of Niem and Bouar, were also present Fr. Jean-Luc Morin, Regional Superior, Fr Piero Trameri, person in charge of the mission in the Vicariate of Italy and Fr. Antonio Canavesi. The latter was welcomed with great joy and gratitude, since Fr. Antonio, together with Fr. Arialdo, was one of the first protagonists, who had a part in the very beginning of the mission.
Besides the presence of Betharramite religious, many people took part in this joyful event: missionaries of other congregations, a lot of people from the neighboring villages, and many friends and helpers of Betharram in the Central African Republic.
The traditional lunch gathering the whole assembly could not fail, as well as the final of the football tournament organized for the occasion over these days of celebration, with a highly coveted cup as a prize.
