Holy Land - Bethlehem
On January 15th , the novices of Bethlehem together with Fr. Henri Lamasse visited the Qumran site guided by Father Marcel Sigrist, Dominican.
The starting point was the Biblical and Archaeological School of Jerusalem built on the site of the martyrdom of St. Stephen. Fr Emile Puech, epigrapher, gave there a lecture on the history of the caves and the Essenian community. Dissenting from priests of the Temple, this community was engaged principally in copying rolls. According to the speaker, the Essenes had no links with the disciples of John the Baptist. The thirty participants then headed for Qumran from +900 m above sea level (Jerusalem) to approximately -400m (level of the Dead Sea). Fr Lamasse sends us the following photos:
