"To be controlled by human nature results in death; To be controlled by the Spirit results in life and peace" (Rm 8, 6). Jesus, you gave up the human desires, you who were free of all sin: and we, your disciples, we have to fight in order to die to sin, and to resist our human desires. May the example of your death be our stronghold: We turn to you, help us overcome the enticement of pleasure and endure the pain. You, our God, you suffered in your innocent flesh; How could we indulge our flesh marked by sin? Going after pleasures leads to sin, and we want to part from sin, we want to live with you, Lord Jesus Christ. With you we died; With you we shall be one for the life of God (cf. Rm 6,5) Dont let sin have any more power on our body, but may our body be an instrument for us to do good; What we were before, it was nailed on the cross with you (cf. Rm 6, 6): Give us the love of the cross; And to allow us to desire something so unnatural, you - who are God, - Accept to die on the cross, hence, you fill us with your blessings. Lord Jesus, we thank you.
