The Superior General at the Consistory for the creation of new Cardinals
On Saturday the 30th of September, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa, was created Cardinal by Pope Francis in the public consistory celebrated in St. Peter's Square.
On Sunday the 1st of October the new Cardinal presided over a solemn concelebration in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.
The Superior General, Fr. Gustavo Agín SCJ, with Fr. Graziano Sala SCJ, Bursar and General Secretary and Fr. Pietro Felet SCJ, who has served the Patriarchate and the Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land for many years, participated in the solemn ceremonies.
Many faithful of the Diocese, coming from Israel, Jordan, the Palestinian Territories and Crete, did not want to miss this significant moment for the life of the Church of the Holy Land.
Official delegations from various countries also participated. Ambassadors of Israel, the Palestinian Territories and the Arab League expressed their congratulations to Mgr Pierbattista Pizzaballa.
These were also joined by the affection and prayer of the Congregation which has carried out - and continues to carry out - a service in the Mother Church for more than a century now and which has also contributed to training many priests of the Patriarchate.
