India - Mangalore
Tuesday, January 17th. The Maria Kripa community, Mangalore, celebrated Pongal, the harvest festival celebrated by Tamilians (South India).
Pongal means "boiling over" or "spill over". The boiling over of milk in the clay pot symbolizes material abundance for the household. The community celebrated a Thanksgiving Mass with the neighbouring communities and decorated the house with kolams (flowers decorations).
