A time of grace for the Vicariate of Thailand
On January 12th and 13th the Betharramite family in Thailand lived some days of celebration for two new professions and the priestly ordination of two of our confreres.
The celebration of perpetual profession was presided over by the Regional Vicar for the Vicariate of Thailand, Fr. John Chan Kunu scj and was held in the chapel of the community of Chiang Mai. The young scholastics Br Stephen Banjerd Chuensuklerttaweekul and Br Andrew Manop Kaengkhiao made their perpetual profession in the hands of the Vicar General, Fr. Jean-Dominique Delgue scj, who traveled to Thailand for the first time for this occasion.
Then, on January 13, Br Alfonso Prasert Pitakkiriboon and Br John Bosco Sommai Sopa-Opaad were ordained priests in the Cathedral dedicated to the Sacred Heart by H. E. Mons. Francis Xavier Vira Arpondratana, Bishop of Chiang Mai.
For the occasion, besides the Vicar General and the Regional Vicar for Thailand, all the Betharramite priests residing in the Vicariate were present.
John Chan Kunu scj, Regional Vicar of Thailand, wanted to share some of his thoughts after having lived these important feast days for the Vicariate:
"I can not forget all the missionaries who arrived in Thailand over 60 years ago and I want to express my gratitude towards them. They sowed ‘the seed of faith’ among us even though many of them did not have the chance to see the fruits”.
